Democrat Crockett 'rooting' for Mexico, Canada against Trump: 'It's really wild'

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said Friday she is “rooting” for Canada and Mexico because they are standing up to President Trump.

“They are really the ones that are speaking truth to power right now,” Crockett said on the radio show “The Breakfast Club.”

“They can see what it is, and they were like, we are not messing with this crazy regime from Mar-a-Lago and basically calling them thugs,” she added.

The Texas Democrat also criticized the fact that Trump was allowed to run for president despite being convicted by a jury of his peers of 34 felony convictions.

“If it was me, there is no way. Right now, I got no convictions, no arrests, no nothing and I will never be qualified for president in the eyes of the vast majority of them,” she said. “But a guy who ended up becoming a convicted felon and had other cases that were pending; he is good to go.”

On Thursday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum challenged a U.S. State Department order that declared several of Mexico’s drug cartels terrorist organizations. Tech billionaire Elon Musk later said these cartels were “eligible for drone strikes.”

“This cannot be an opportunity for the U.S. to invade our sovereignty,” Sheinbaum told reporters. “With Mexico, it is collaboration and coordination, never subordination or interventionism, and even less invasion,” she added.

The State Department on Wednesday declared Tren de Aragua, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), Cartel de Sinaloa, Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, Carteles Unidos, Cartel del Noreste, Cartel del Golfo and La Nueva Familia Michoacana as terrorist groups.

According to Mexican authorities, the label is unwarranted because cartels are motivated by profit not politics, unlike other organizations categorized as terrorist entities.

On Feb. 11, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also reacted strongly to a move by the Trump administration. Criticizing the U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, he called them “entirely unjustified.” He said the country would respond “if it comes to that.”

“Tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum would be entirely unjustified,” Trudeau told reporters.
