Live updates: Conservative activist Charlie Kirk dead after Utah campus shooting, Trump says

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at a Utah college campus, President Trump announced on social media.

Kirk, 31 and the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was struck by a gunshot in the neck, according to video footage from the event.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump posted. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!

Here’s what we know:

  • — FBI Director Kash Patel said his agency is monitoring the situation; Attorney General Pam Bondi said FBI and ATF agents were on scene;
  • — Campus authorities initially said on X a suspect is in custody but have since clarified that the suspect is at large.

As news broke of the incident, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle and right-wing pundits took to social media to condemn the incident.

“Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father,” Vice President Vance wrote on social media.
