A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to fully fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in November after the White House indicated it would only partially cover food aid benefits amid the government shutdown.
Over 40 million Americans were set to receive reduced benefits this month as the Senate has failed to reopen the federal government.
On Friday, the upper chamber will vote again on the House-passed GOP continuing resolution in an effort to bring about an end to the shutdown. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is bringing it to the floor, however, with the aim to amend it and attach a three-bill spending package, which has been part of negotiations with Democrats.
This would also include a new end date, changing it from Nov. 21 until some time in January, per a GOP aide. The package would likely take days to clear the upper chamber due to objections, possibly on both sides of the aisle.
