Voters in New York, Virginia, New Jersey and California, among other places, are heading to the polls to cast ballots in elections that will shed light on how Americans feel about Trump’s second term to date and the Democratic Party.
Polls close as early as 7 p.m. in Virginia and 11 p.m. EST in California.
Here’s what you should watch for on Election Night.
Some lawmakers are hoping Election Day is the hurdle standing in the way of reopening the government. The Senate on Tuesday failed to reopen the federal government for the 14th time, as the shutdown tied with the 2018-19 closure as the longest in U.S. history.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is still top of mind for lawmakers. The White House said Tuesday it is complying with a judge’s order to tap into a contingency fund, clarifying earlier comments from President Trump after he signaled he would not do so.
High-profile figures on both sides of the aisle are also mourning former Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday, after his family announced he died Monday at age 84.
