Live updates: Senate votes for 8th time to reopen government as shutdown extends to week 2

The Senate is voting on the House-passed continuing resolution to fund the government as the shutdown hits the two-week mark.

This is the eighth time the upper chamber is voting on the legislation. It also marks the first time that Senate Democrats will not be able to vote on their own funding measure, which would permanently extend enhanced health insurance premium subsidies and restore nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid.

Tuesday’s vote is expected to fail.

At the White House earlier on Tuesday, Trump honored the late Charlie Kirk with the Medal of Freedom. He also hosted Argentinian President Javier Milei, where a $20 billion currency swap took center stage.
