Some Republicans are sounding the alarm over Tuesday’s jobs report revision, casting doubt on President Trump’s economic agenda, particularly his sweeping tariffs.
A number of GOP lawmakers view the president’s global trade war as a central component of the weaker-than-expected jobs data, expressing concern over the state of the economy as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to fast-track a suit against Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, adding further fuel to the fire and heightening the stakes for the president as he seeks to implement his economic policy.
Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook will also get to keep working while she fights Trump’s push to remove her, a federal judge ruled late Tuesday, saying Cook had shown so far that her removal violated the Federal Reserve Act’s “for cause” provision.
The ruling capped a day of movement on legal challenges to Trump’s policies, as Chief Justice John Roberts also allowed the administration to freeze billions in foreign aid, at least temporarily.
Across the Atlantic, Russia’s war against Ukraine took a new twist, as Russian drones entered Polish airspace, causing NATO and Poland to scramble jets in defense. Some Republicans on Capitol Hill characterized the move as an “act of war” against NATO.
Tensions are also on the rise in the Middle East after Israel carried out a strike against Hamas leaders in Doha, and Qatar has vowed to retaliate. The president on Tuesday evening said he was “not thrilled” with the attack.
Trump on Wednesday evening will host another dinner of the “Rose Garden Club” in the newly renovated White House Rose Garden.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will mark up 14 bills related to the District of Columbia, including legislation related to the Home Rule Act, addressing crime and beautifying the city.
On Wednesday, Trump’s 30-day federalization of Washington’s police department expires, marking the conclusion of one part of his crime crackdown in the nation’s capital, though the city is expected to continue working with the administration.
