Live updates: Trump may soon meet Putin; with Apple CEO, announces $600B US investment

President Trump is considering an in-person meeting soon with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as the war between the nations shows no sign of widing down.

White House peace envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin at the Kremlin earlier Wednesday, just two days ahead of a deadline set by Trump that calls for either a peace agreement in Ukraine or punitive action against Russia.

Trump last week said he was moving two “nuclear” submarines closer to Russia in response to threatening rhetoric from a top Kremlin official. On Sunday, he confirmed the vessels were now “in the region.”

Trump and Apple CEO Tim Cook announced in the Oval Office a $600 billion investment from Apple in U.S. manufacturing over the next four years. As part of its new American Manufacturing Program, the company will build facilities across the U.S. and will generate its own electricity to power some of them, Trump said.

Outside Washington, five soldiers were shot, and the suspected shooter was apprehended at Fort Stewart, outside Savannah, Ga. An Army sergeant, 28, has been accused in the incident. The Army said he had used his personal handgun.
