President Trump on Wednesday directed that flags at all government buildings and military stations be lowered to half-staff to honor the conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed in a shooting earlier in the day.
Trump issued the proclamation shortly after announcing Kirk had died in a shooting during an appearance at Utah Valley University. Flags will remain lowered until sunset on Sunday.
In addition to government buildings, Eric Trump announced flags would be flown at half-staff at all Trump Organization properties in honor of Kirk.
“Charlie Kirk was an incredible patriot — brave, tough as hell, and a dear friend to our entire family,” Eric Trump posted on the social platform X.
Kirk, 31, was the co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization that focused on college students and turning out the vote. Kirk had in recent years become a close ally of President Trump and a friend of the Trump family.
