Trumps host trick-or-treaters for Halloween at the White House

President Trump returned from his trip to Asia to a frightening scene at the White House on Thursday: There were dinosaurs, ghosts, a ghostbuster and the sisters from “The Shining,” surrounded by dozens of pumpkins along the building’s South Portico.

The president and first lady Melania Trump hosted the children of staff and other guests for trick-or-treating as part of annual Halloween celebrations.

The Trumps passed out candy bars to children who lined up with their parents holding White House-branded trick or treating bags. The president and first lady stopped periodically to speak with the children and their parents. Reporters were gathered a short distance away on the South Lawn of the White House and were unable to hear Trump’s comments.

Trump wore a suit and a red “USA” hat with “45-47” printed on the side, a nod to his role as the 45th and 47th president. The first lady wore a trench coat with orange accents.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt attended with her young son, and deputy White House chief of staff Stephen Miller attended with his children, among other guests.

Trump returned to the White House earlier Thursday from a five-day trip to Asia that included stops in Malaysia, Japan and South Korea. Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday local time in South Korea, then he flew back to the White House to arrive in time for Halloween festivities.
