Welcome to the new world order, the natural order of things. It has been developing over 5 decades in the US.
The root cause? Complacency! The US lost engineering power as it moved manufacturing to China. Outsourcing is great, but the impact of this loss will impact the quality of life for all Americans for years to come. It has deviated the US. Countries like China, Korea and India as well as many others in Asia are making plans! The US is DOGE’in bullets and the economy is running for cover as Trump pulls the marionette strings of financial vehicles him and his uneducated and uninformed minions don’t understand or they are doing what they can to fill their pockets now!!!! Scam!!
The degrading of education in the US happened as the need for STEM students disappeared with US manufacturing and industry. What remains in this space is some watered down mediocre excuse for programs at the high school level. We still produce a quality engineer but it happens at only certain top tier colleges and is taught by our left over aging out top tier US engineers, or by foreign educated engineers here to start a life. Once in a while you might get a Russian engineers from the day.
All this makes a guy like Musk is an interesting. He’s like “make engineering sexy again”, or MESA. Other than some personality and character flaws, the guy has delivered a real value to the YS economy beyond his mediocre over hyped car product. He gave the US and its engineering students hope, new and interesting innovative hope. SpaceX is significant if it’s more than hype!
Summary
The US will require a new order that puts all menial unskilled labor into educational programs to support any role that will not be already automated with or without AI. Perhaps there is a reassurance in the craftsman space, where fine craft can’t be automated. Maybe people use AI to innovate and they sidestep the education formerly required?!
