White House unveils renovated Situation Room

The White House this week unveiled a freshly upgraded Situation Room in the West Wing following a $50 million facelift to the secure complex.

President Biden posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, of a tour he received of the new space.

“Folks, the newly renovated White House Situation Room is up and running. My thanks to everyone who worked on this incredible facility,” the president wrote on social media.

A video showed Biden cutting a ribbon in the space and getting a tour of the refurbished areas.

“Pretty fancy, you guys,” he told officials as he walked around.

The Situation Room is a highly secure facility on the ground floor of the West Wing where presidents have traditionally held sensitive discussions and meetings about national security issues.

It is where then-President Obama and his team, including then-Vice President Biden, watched the raid that killed Osama bin Laden in 2011. That space was preserved and sent to Obama’s presidential library.

While it is called the Situation Room, it is a 5,500-square-foot space that contains conference rooms and offices.

The renovation took a year to complete. Floors, furniture and technology were upgraded and modernized.
